Gabe Klein

Gabe Klein is a special venture partner with Fontinalis Partners, a leading venture capital firm focused on technology investments in next-generation mobility. He also advises a number of technology/transportation startups, including Bridj, a flexible mass transit company for which he provides strategy guidance.
Mr. Klein has worked in a number of leadership roles in transportation, technology, consumer services and consulting. In 2011, he joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration in Chicago as the first hire to run the Chicago Department of Transportation. From 2008 through 2010, he was director of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation during the administration of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty. In both positions, Mr. Klein oversaw the institution of innovative finance, technology and transportation systems, including the creation of extensive bike-share programs. He also was a co-founder of On The Fly, a boutique food-service company whose offerings included street vendor sales of natural food from electric “smartkarts”; served as a regional vice president for Zipcar; and held director-level positions with Bikes USA and ProfessionaLink, a national technology-consulting firm. Last year, Mr. Klein had a six-month fellowship at the Urban Land Institute and spoke around the country about promoting entrepreneurial public leadership and positioning transportation as a transformative public investment.
